Assisted Living emerged in the early 1990s as an alternative to nursing homes and independent living situations. A typical resident residing in an assisted living facility can be described as a resident who needs assistance with at least one daily living activity. Moving your loved one to an assisted living facility may be a great choice if he or she cannot live on their own, but do not need nursing care. Assisted living facilities are regulated at the state level. You can find the regulations for assisted living facilities in Iowa here.

Our goal at Village Cottages Assisted Living is to provide necessary services while allowing as much independence to our residents as their health permits. To ensure our residents are receiving the best assistance possible tailored to their specific needs, we also offer specialized areas of the center for people with specific health concerns, including a dementia wing.
The 24-hour assistance services available include everything from apartment housekeeping to medication management for our residents. Our dedicated staff works hard to help our residents get through each day feeling cared for but still independent. Give us a call or email us to request more information about becoming a new resident at a QHC assisted living center.
A nursing home is the highest level of care for older adults outside of a hospital. Nursing home caretakers offer custodial care which includes help with bathing, getting dressed, and eating. Some nursing homes are considered skilled nursing facilities which is defined by a healthcare institution that meets federal criteria for Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement for nursing care. The nursing care includes the supervision of every patient by a registered nurse and maintenance records of care and conditions of every patient, and the availability of nursing care 24 hours a day. All of QHC Management’s nursing homes are skilled nursing facilities.
Ensuring your health or the health of an aging loved one is an important priority to make. That is our mentality at every QHC nursing home throughout Iowa when caring for our residents. Whether you require health care assistance from us for the long term or short, we offer a variety of services to help you get through each day feeling comfortable, even helping you restore some of your physical and/or mental capabilities with our rehabilitative services. At our Mitchellville location, our professionally trained staff works with each resident to reach a better quality of living and even achieve the ability to return home in some cases. Outpatient rehabilitation is offered at some of our centers, including our Dysart Sunnycrest Nursing Center. We work with your health care needs.
We offer more secure options for residents facing Alzheimer’s or similar disorders. We have CCDI units in many cities across Iowa including Maquoketa, Marion, Humboldt and Winterset. These kinds of facilities are structured to avoid confrontational living situations and instead promotes simplicity and relaxation for residents dealing with these kinds of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Our staff is also trained to help our residents reaching the end of their lives and their families with hospice care. At our Fort Dodge Villa Care Center, our trained staff will help families make arrangements for their loved ones and help our residents feel as comfortable as possible. From the beginning to the end of our residents’ stays at our nursing care centers, we strive to maintain the integrity and quality care we promise.
